Extracting Cannabis Tinctures and Rosin at home?

Recent secured myself a "Source" from ExtractCraft, and taking my first steps down this path.

Why?

First, why not diffusion -- a.k.a. magic butter -- using fatty oils to bond with our cannabinoids. Diffusions never exceed the potency of the original plant material. Great for brownies, but as a tincture you'd need to drink a shot or two every time.

Extraction, in my case a closed-loop-solvent based, used a molecular process to separate our target compounds from the plant material, and then, importantly, distill the extract down to concentrated oil or resin. Extraction results in super-potent THC/CBD levels not achievable with diffusion.

WARNING: Open hydrocarbon methods like butane blasting is extremely dangerous and really dumb. Please don't do it. consider a closed-loop system with hydrocarbon derivatives like ethanol alcohol, or non-solvent extractions like rosin press.

Equipment

Extraction machine (I am using ExtractCraft Source Turbo)
Mason Jars, cold
200 proof ethanol (shh i'm using everclear 190 to start)
Plant Material (I've got bags and bags of trimmings and one hermied plant in my freezer, perfect)

Process

Pre-cool the plant material, jars, and alcohol. we want this to stay cold for the wash
Mix plant material and alcohol in said jars and immediately stick back in the freezer
The longer they soak the more you'll extract, HOWEVER, its not limited to the good stuff.
1. Most recommend a short wash if going for clean rosin
2. Longer washes ok for RSO or tinctures.
Place oil in device and cook (takes couple hours)

That looks like a great machine! I haven’t seen it before so sorry if this is a dumb question, but can you use the extractions from it for epen juice too, or is it geared mainly towards edibles?

Yep.

The machine just leaves you with a resin/rosin that you can burn like wax/shatter directly(that's what I do) or you can mix in a dilution to make it useable in vape pens.

For just edibles you can just use mct oil and a crockpot 😀 way cheaper.

Man I am digging into this. Watched so many vids & prowled their site. It’s an uphill pricetag but hey Christmas is coming & this would be ideal for my fav person (& ofc my greedy butt will benefit!!)

I’d definitely be more into the concentrates it could make & then turning them into vape. Probably half the goal in buying it would be making carts (& seeing his face Xmas morning opening this!). For edibles I already have a Magic Butter machine.

Can I ask how pure you find the flavor of what the Extract Turbo creates? How close to professional does it taste? I’m somewhat handy, but flavor is always the downfall of my own homemade stuff. It looks so lovely in videos but most vloggers really don’t get that into the actual quality of the hits while unboxing/doing tutorials so I thought I’d take advantage of your first hand knowledge, if you’d kindly indulge me.

Also, if you have the Büchner flask, do you personally feel it’s worthwhile, or an unnecessary bit of kit? I feel like I’d either feel like a mad scientist with that in the house, or just break it early on & that would be the end of that 😆

CannaGal You'll need a solution to mix with cart that will probaly influence taste more than anything.

The process itself is a safer way of doing the old butane extraction, but your just left with an processed resin. It just uses alchohol to remove all the "good stuff" from the plant material. The extract itself is a heater and vacuum to recover the alchohol, leaving just the resin. You can cook it down to a hashy like subtance (which is all i use it for), or leave a little alcohol in it further processing, but a good would is supposed to completely remove the extraction material (ethanol in this case) - however thats not always true even in retail - https://news.vcu.edu/article/eliquids_often_contain_alcohol_as_an_unlisted_ingredient_what
